Statement of Faith

At Calvary Chapel Grand Junction, we hold to the following foundational beliefs concerning God, His Word, salvation, the Church, and the work of the Holy Spirit.

THE TRINITY

One God in Three Persons

WE BELIEVE that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory. This triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all things. (Genesis 1:1, Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 44:8 & 48:16, Matthew 28:19-20, John 10:30, Hebrews 1:3)

THE BIBLE

God's Word

WE BELIEVE the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God and inerrant in the original writings.

GOD THE FATHER

The Father

WE BELIEVE in God the Father, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Deuteronomy 33:27, Psalm 90:2, Psalm 102:27, John 3:16 & 4:24, 1 Timothy 1:17, Titus 1:3)

JESUS CHRIST

The Son of God

WE BELIEVE in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings, in His substitutionary, propitious, and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily Resurrection, ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His perpetual intercession for His people, and in His future personal, visible return to earth in power and glory at the end of the age. (Isaiah 7:14, Micah 5:2, Matthew 1:23, Mark 16:19, John 1:1-2. 8:58 & 11:25, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 1 Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 1:8, 1 John 1:2, Revelation 1:8)

THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit

WE BELIEVE in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the godhead, who came forth to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower for ministry, service and witness all who believe in Christ. We believe the Holy spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ, and that He is our abiding Helper, Teacher, and Guide. We believe in the present day ministry of the Holy Spirit as recorded in the framework of the New Testament. (Acts 1:8, 2 Corinthians 3:18, John 16:8-13, Romans 8:26, John 14:16-17, 1 Corinthians 12-14)

SALVATION

Sin, Repentance, and Salvation

WE BELIEVE that all people are sinners by nature and choice, and therefore, are under condemnation; that God regenerates by the Holy Spirit and forgives those who repent of their sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord; and that by the indwelling Holy Spirit, God enables said believers to live a godly life. (Acts 8:15-17, Ephesians 2:1-20, Romans 3:23 & 5:8, Titus 2:11-14)​

​THE CHURCH

The Body of Christ

WE BELIEVE in the spiritual unity of all true believers in our Lord Jesus Christ, called the body of Christ, in which Jesus Christ is the head of this body. (1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Ephesians 4:15-16)

ORDINANCES OF THE CHURCH

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

WE BELIEVE that the Lord Jesus Christ committed two ordinances to the church:

Baptism

The Lord’s Supper

​Baptism and communion are open only to those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. These ordinances are observed in obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ as acts of love and devotion and are not to be considered necessary for our salvation. (Matthew 28:19, Luke 22:19-20, Acts 2:38, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

GENDER & SEXUALITY

WE BELIEVE in two genders, male and female, and we believe these genders are determined at birth (Genesis 1:27). God's design for sexual desire, orientation, and identity is within the bounds of the marital union of one natural born man and one natural born woman. (Genesis 1:26-28, Genesis 2:22-25, Romans 1:26-27) All other sexual activity violates the clear biblical teaching on sexual purity. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11 & 6:18-20, Galatians 5:19-21, Ephesians 5:3, Colossians 3:5-6) Married persons, husbands and wives, are commanded to exclusive fidelity to each other, while single persons are called to abstinence. (Hebrews 13:4) Gender identity and roles are merely aspects of God's creative design. (1 Corinthians 11:7-9. 1 timothy 2:12-14) Any attempt to alter one's gender by surgery, medication or appearance is a violation of God's Word. 

 

SECOND COMING

WE BELIEVE in the second coming of Jesus Christ, which is His personal, visible return to earth, where He will establish His millennial reign. (Matthew 24:29-31, Revelation 19:11-16)

RAPTURE

WE BELIEVE in the pre-tribulation rapture of the Bride of Christ, where all genuine believers will be caught up to meet the Lord Jesus in the air. This will take place before the final 70th week of Daniel, which is the seven year great tribulations, where God will our out His wrath upon a Christ-rejecting world. (Matthew 24:36-44, 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10, 4:13-18 & 5:9, Romans 5:9, Revelation 3:10, 2 Peter 2:7-9)

 

HEAVEN AND HELL

WE BELIEVE in a literal Heaven and a literal Hell. All those who place their faith alone in Christ alone will spend eternity in Heaven with Jesus Christ the Lord. But all those who reject the free gift of eternal life that Jesus offers every human being, they will be separated from God for all eternity. (Psalm 9:17, Matthew 5:3, 5:22, 18:9, 25:31-34, Mark 9:42-48, John 3:16-18, 1 Peter 1:3-5, Revelation 14:6-11, Revelation 20:11-15, John 5:24-29)
